In the heart of History

A village with more than five centuries of history is waiting for you to discover it! Nippos is a semi-mountainous village, in the center of Apokoronas, an area full of tradition, natural beauty, and many options for all interests – religion, history and routes in the nature.

When Barbarossa invaded Crete and destroyed Aptera at the end of the 16th century, the administrative, political and ecclesiastical center of the city of Chania was moved to Nippos. For this reason, if you take a walk in the village, you will find remnants of other cultures, which testify to the history of the place and the country.

Over the centuries, fourteen churches and chapels have been built in the village, which you can also visit. Nippos is one of the villages with the most churches in Greece.

The location of Nippos village is ideal to set as the starting point of your hiking adventures and numerous natural paths of amazing beauty, which in absence of any human intervention, promise to shock you. The city of Chania is half an hour away from the village while Sfakia – with its huge history, unspoiled beaches famous traditional food – is just 45 minutes away.
